Artist Statement

I was born on the west coast of Canada and moved to Lumby five years ago. I've always enjoyed sketching pictures of almost everything. People have been telling me for years to take art lessons, but I like to do it my way. A good friend noticed one day that I always have to be doing something with my hands and he was into carving and tinkering around with artsy things. One day when he was carving a hiking stick, he handed me one and told me to start carving and that's where the cobra came from. It was the first carving I've ever done.

To me an art is something that is for your own designs and not for someone to change the way you do things. If one person teaches their way to fifty people; then they're all going to be the same. Art is a part of communication by a different means other than speech. It is an expression of how someone feels or what they see in an object (like a piece of wood) at the time that each piece is created and none should be able to tell you how to express your emotions, feelings or visions. Where one person can see a face in a piece of wood; it might look like an animal to someone else. Individuality is to me, what art work is all about; but that's my opinion and I'm the only one who has to listen.
