Looking Ahead:
Currently I suppose I could be classed as a "realistic" water colour painter, coming
out of the English tradition of water colour painting and much influenced by W.J. Phillips (late of Winnipeg). I feel, however, that I do more than merely document the details of any scene I paint; I try to capture the essence of a scene's beauty and the mood it engenders. In spite of being a somewhat precise painter, I always try to leave room for the imagination.
The direction in which I would like to move as an artist, is to paint in such a way as
to leave more and more room for the imagination, and to paint with greater boldness and freedom. I have no interest in painting complete abstracts, I would always want to give
the viewer something to identify with while leaving room for personal interpretation. My aim would be to lead people from the familiar everyday world to the world of imagination;
from the temporal to the internal.
