Artist Statement:

I did a number of portrait paintings, states Deane. People are my love. A number of years ago I started painting when my husband was very ill and I was under a great deal of stress with all that was happening. Painting came naturally -I believe through prayer - as prior to painting my first portrait I could only draw stick men. Due to the stress load I was under at the time I had prayed for release in some form as I new I was coming apart. Knowing I needed to relax I stopped at an art store, picked up a number of supplies, went home and started to paint. My first portrait was a native girl with her hair blowing in the breeze. She turned out quite lovely and still to this day hangs on our front room wall in memory of this occasion.

Later I went to Art classes and my art teachers who viewed my works that had already been painted were surprised at my talent. I had the opportunity to attend art school. I attended 1 year at OUC Kelowna in the arts. Loved it. Did a number of paintings - sold some and gave some to family as keepsakes. A few years later I detached a retna in my left eye and it changed my depth perception when I would paint - therefore little painting since then.
