Shannon Schweizer-Lavell wrote and co-produced Kalamalka Colors Relaxation & Guided Imagery with her husband Jean-Claude Schweizer. Partial proceeds go to support Relaxation Support Groups for people living with cancer, in the North Okanagan. The recording is available through their website at amazon.com and Indiepool.com. The Canadian distributor Indiepool makes the cd or cassette available in retail stores across Canada, as well as through their website. Guided imagery is an easy form of meditation that draws on our inner resources: our ability to sense, feel and remember peacefulness. Guided imagery has been shown to be helpful for the stress of physical health problems as well as improving sports performance, enhancing creativity and intuition.
Shannon has been known to try her hand at painting from time to time. The sea shells on her bathroom counter, collected from numerous beaches... were the inspiration for the painting on the left, acrylic on canvass.
Ginger jars have been the focus of more than one painting. Shannon has a ginger jar at home that contains wish lists, prayers and anything that needs taking care of. Well, it's one way of letting go of worries.
Long before the cd or painting with acrylics, Shannon wrote a book: Closet Mystics ...come out firewalking, about the firewalk of life. She developed a self care map that she endeavors to follow but there are days... Some days she has to read her book and listen to her own relaxation tape. The self care map has all the tools of the firewalk. In order to prove to herself that her tools worked... she tested them over a year of many memorable firewalks. She shares some of her more personal firewalks in the book, i.e.: single parenting, the death of her brother & father. Well, life goes on.... and Shannon moved to Lumby, a bit by accident (though the Closet Mystic would say "Are there any accidents?") and has been enjoying her life in the boonies and work at Whitevalley Community Resource Centre.
