Belt sander races


 


RULES AND REGULATIONS

 Power Source
Belt sander all be powered only by 120v 60Hz single phase supplied at the track. Extension cords supplied.

 Track
Belt sanders must be capable of operation on the plywood track between plywood walls 8 inch wide track and 2 inch side walls. The track 64 feet long [2 feet on starting block 30 feet race section and 32 feet final stop area, with foam at the end for the long stops].

 Winning
The first sander to cross the finish line in 20 seconds due to causes such as - tripping over cord, cord entanglement, cord separation, or power sander switch error or failure, is considered to have run the race and finished behind the others. In the event that bought sanders fail to reach the finish line the farthest is the winner.

 Belts and Grit
Belt sanders of all classes must use a belt of commercially manufactured abrasive cloth or paper as their sole means of locomotion. Studs, chains, or other objects in belt are forbidden.

 Energy Storage Devices
Energy storage devices shall be defined as springs, flywheels, compressed gas tanks, chemical energy storage devices such as batteries and rocket motors, and electrical energy storage devices such as capacitators and inductors. No belt sander shall have any energy storage device onboard that is charged or loaded at the start of the race with the following exceptions:

Springs used to tension or steer or guide belts
Motor brush springs
Spring or cushion couplings in drive train
Springs in trigger or electrical switches
Springs used for suspension
Springs used to guide sander or bear on track walls 

 Interference
No sander or entrant may interfere with another sander's progress along the track. Interference includes, but is not limited to the following: touching, unplugging, turning power off, launching projectiles and the introduction of obstacles of foreign substances to the track. Any race in which interference has taken place shall be run again with this original track assignments and the old results replaced with the new. Intentionally caused interference the contestant will be disqualified from racing.

 Pyrotechnics
Devices using combustion such as rocket motors, smoke generators and pyrotechnics are absolutely prohibited in our races or matches. Any person engaging in disruptive or dangerous behavior will be required to leave the race area.

 Liability
Our race event is not responsible for any injuries to contestants or spectators. We will not be responsible damage to property. There are certain risks and hazards inherent in the use of power tolls and the contestants and spectators assume all responsibility of any consequences resulting from their actions or by their presence at these events.

Class Rules

 Stock Class - Sanders may have guide and suspension devices of any size that will fit on the track. Vents, exhaust ports, and openings may be covered or blocked if desired. They may not have any modifications to the factory gear ratio, motor wiring, or electrical systems. The belt rollers may not be modified or changed in size.

 Modified Class - must have handle and belt on the bottom, so that they still look vaguely like belt sanders. Otherwise they may be constructed or modified in any way that does not conflict with other rules.
