The
Lumby Seniors Internet began in September 1997 with
funding from the Ministry of Women's Equality, Vernon Foundation
and Seniors Lottery.
A computer donated by
longtime Lumby resident Rosemary Deuling was upgraded and since
that time many seniors regularly engage in surfing the "net
and sending e-mail to friends and family. |
|
The
Seniors Internet is located in the lounge at Saddle Mountain
Place, the Lumby Seniors residence. In a rural setting but
located in town, it's a great place to live with many conveniences
and within walking distance of all amenities.
It is run by a
volunteer board with input from the residents' committee. There is
a "Drop-In" held on a number of days every week with
many activities to keep life stimulating. There are many
attractions and activities to satisfy all interests, with the
Okanagan Valley, Arrow Lakes and Shuswap nearby. |
|
Lumby
seniors have a great variety of options available to them and
there are numerous organization sin town in which to be involved,
such as the Royal Canadian Legion, Lumby Lions, Women's Institute,
Old Age Pensioners, and Pythian Sisters, to name but a few.
There are continually
different events in which to participate and in recent months
there have been a number of locally organized day trips which are
always well attended, like a run on the Kettle Valley Railway
and a cruise on the old stern wheeler, The Fintry Queen.
